Under the leadership of Dr. G. Steven Suits, Palmetto
Family received its charter as a non-profit education organization
in 1993, and opened an office in Columbia in the fall of 1994.
Working in association with Focus on the Family and the Family
Research Council, we began “defending and strengthening the family”
in South Carolina.
Over the years we have been involved in South
Carolina’s Partial Birth Abortion Ban, the defeat of Video Poker,
defining marriage as between one man and one woman, defending
religious liberties (i.e., school prayer, release time, etc.), and
many other issues.
Our research and publications also promote positive change that
helps make South Carolina a better place to live and raise a family.
We enjoy a reputation as a clear, credible voice on cultural and
public policy issues affecting the family. Our research has
included Father Absence: A South Carolina Crisis, South Carolina
Marital Health Index, What Parents Want? SC Voters Speak Out on Sexuality Education, Beyond
Safe Sex: A Physician’s Prescription for Adolescent Health, and
South Carolina Cultural
Indicators.

history and
legislative victories.
